Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for further series.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
