Much like Storm Claudia tore through the north-west the previous evening, the home side swept United away at the their home ground. It was a statement three-nil triumph for their manager's side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a display that firmly established their title credentials as they reinforced their place at the top of the table.

Consecutive Setbacks for Manchester United

This scoreline signalled consecutive Women's Super League losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the initial occasion since spring 2024, leaving them seven points off the top team with their title hopes hanging by a thread.

The Red Devils' capability to balance domestic and continental soccer with a small roster has been a widely debated issue since they qualified for the European competition. Team Changes

Skinner had tried to rotate the squad with a handful of changes. Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Galton all brought vigor, although the exclusion of the high-performing Malard to the bench raised a few eyebrows.

Overpowering Start

The home side, in contrast, could have extended their advantage when a delightful Miedema long ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it mattered little to the winning team.
