Shock as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.
The motive behind the shooting is unknown and no arrests have taken place, as per the official statement.
Details of the Attack
Law enforcement said that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a location close to the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the building supervising the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, according to reports.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," an official report stated.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the location.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to determine their destination," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, Nicole Stock, said the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"I am devastated. I don't have words," she said.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were willing to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."
She requested the citizens to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the scene, saying this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that was broadcast on a popular local TV network.
Beyond his work in broadcasting, Stock was active in various business ventures, including security provision, offering elite guarding services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in real estate operations and participated in building evictions.

A government minister said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's murder.
"He spoke his truth boldly and honestly. He even challenged me and my policies as a public official. He was a shining model of who we ought to be," the minister added.
A political leader said the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a shock for all South Africans".
A media executive noted that "Stock was not merely a TV personality. He was a gifted communicator, a passionate music lover and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every moment on screen. His artistic passion left an lasting impression."
In a release, the channel he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his influence "will endure".
