The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder previously helped the Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial World Series after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."

The veteran has now hit 23 playoff homers, making him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot besides George Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the one club never to appear in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the losing end of the series," he continued.

Toronto won the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
