The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
