The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
